Calm & Collected - Page 2 Making the Wall Hanging Step 1. On wrong side of cream/blue print 4 7/8? square, draw diagonal line with marking tool of your choice. Referring to Diagram I, place cream/blue square on light blue mini dot 4 7/8? square, right sides together. Sew 1/4? seam on each side of marked line; cut apart on marked line. Press open to make pieced square. Make 12. Repeat using cream/blue print with sage tone-on-tone 4 7/8? squares (make 24), cream/blue print with sage/cream large print (make 16), cream/blue print with sage/cream small print (make 8), and light blue mini dot with sage/cream large print (make 4). Diagram I Step 2. Referring to Diagrams II-A and B, arrange and sew 2 rows of 2 pieced squares each in color combinations shown. Sew rows together to make large pieced squares. Make 16 total. Diagram II-A Diagram II-B Step 3. Arrange and sew 2 rows using large pieced squares as shown in Diagram III. Sew rows together to make Pieced Square Block. Make 4. Diagram III Step 4. Referring to the Wall Hanging Assembly Diagram, sew 2 rows of 2 blocks each, turning blocks to match arrangement. Sew rows together. Stitch cream/blue 2 1/2? x WOF strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Sew remaining cream/blue print strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides. Stitch sage 1? x WOF tone-on-tone strips to sides; trim even. Sew remaining sage strips to top/bottom; trim even. Measure exact width of quilt top (raw edge to raw edge). Trim 2 blue stripe 4 1/4? x WOF strips to this measurement and sew sage/cream small print 4 1/4? squares to ends. Sew untrimmed 4 1/4? x WOF blue stripe strips to sides; trim even. Stitch pieced strips to top/bottom. Assembly Diagram Step 5. To quilt the wall hanging, layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions). Ann machine ditch quilted the seams and filled the cream/blue background and blue stripe border with a meander.Bind quilt with sage tone-on-tone fabric (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions).
