Planning, Cutting, and Marking
Our pillow shams were made using the leftover fabric after the Roses for a Cure border strips were cut. If you're making the quilt, cut the border strips prior to cutting fabric for the shams.

Carefully plan all cutting for shams before cutting sham rectangles and strips so the vines will fall on the shams as you desire. If you wish for the vine stripes to run from top to bottom on the pillow, cut the rectangles so the vines run along the 20" length for all pieces. Be sure to center the vine design within the large rectangle. Cut the ruffle strips lengthwise (center on a vine) if you wish for the vine to run continuously around the ruffle.

Making the Pillow Shams
Step 1. Using 1/2"seam allowance, stitch short ends of 4 1/2"x 145" strip together (right sides together) to make large loop. To finish raw edges of strip ends, fold ends under 1/8", then stitch along fold, stitching through all layers. Hem one edge of loop in the following manner. Fold raw edge 1/4" to wrong side; press. Fold again 1/4" to wrong side; press. Stitch along folded edge.
