Quilt Top Assembly and Appliqué
Step 1. Referring to photo, stitch brown and gold strips together. Trim length to 15 1/2".
Step 2. Fold quilt center in half on both length and width; use folds as placement guide. Referring to Diagram I, position star. Appliqué in place.

Step 3. Referring to Assembly Diagram, stitch 2 rows of 5 red squares each for side borders. Sew to sides of quilt. To make top/bottom borders, stitch 2 rows of 6 red squares each. Sew to top/bottom.

Quilting and Finishing
Step 4. Layer, baste, and quilt. Julie hand quilted the star in a meander, then outline stitched it. The background strips each feature a vertical line of stitching, and each red square is stitched with 2 parallel lines. Bind with red/black print (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions).
