Crazy Quilting
This cheery gift bag is a great way to use up all those fabric scraps left over from holiday projects past. It also gives you a chance to use all those decorative machine stitches and fancy threads you've been longing to try. Karen uses Pellon® Stitch-N-Tear® fabric stabilizer, available at most quilt shops and fabric stores, as the base for her crazy quilting.
Once you've mastered making crazy patchwork, you can prepare it for all kinds of projects. Christmas stockings, purses, potholders, and many other items can be cut out from a prepared sheet of crazy patchwork, then assembled according to individual pattern instructions.

Piecing the Patchwork
1. Pin fabric scrap to center of fabric stabilizer rectangle (Diagram I). Pin second scrap to first piece, right sides together, aligning raw edges along 1 side. Stitch (through the 3 layers) using 1/4" seam allowance along aligned edge (Diagram II).
2. Press second piece open. With scissors, trim raw edges of second piece to match alignment of first piece (Diagram III). Place third piece of fabric right side down over first 2 pieces, aligning raw edges along 1 side. Stitch (through all layers) along aligned side (Diagram IV).
