Piecing the Blocks
1. Draw diagonal line on wrong side of green small print 5 7/8" square. Referring to Diagram I, place marked square on brown 5 7/8" square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line; cut apart on marked line. Press open to make pieced squares. Make 8. In same manner, make remaining pieced squares in fabric combinations and quantities shown.

2. Referring to Diagram II, make 4 Blocks.

Quilt Backing Assembly
Note: Refer to Assembly Diagram for following steps.
3. Sew 2 rows of 2 Blocks each, rotating as shown. Sew rows together.
4. Measure exact width of quilt center (from raw edge to raw edge). Trim 2 red stripe strips to this measurement and sew brown small print 8 1/2" squares to ends. Stitch untrimmed red strips to sides; trim even with top/bottom. Stitch pieced strips to top/bottom.
5. In same manner, add middle and outer borders.

Quilting and Finishing
6. Layer, baste, quilt, and bind. Take care to match seams and raw edges of quilt top and backing when layering and basting. See quilt pattern for quilting and binding descriptions (McCall's Quilting December 2006 Issue).
