2. Referring to Diagram II, stitch border stripe strips to prepared green rectangle, right sides together, sewing through all layers and catching purple texture flange in seam. Press border stripe strip open and purple flange towards border stripe. Make 2
3. Fold green 6" x 20" strip in half lengthwise, wrong sides together; press. Referring to Diagram III, place on green leaf 12" x 20" rectangle and stitch together. Note: Debbie chose to serge this seam. Do likewise, or stitch as usual, then overcast raw edges with zigzag stitch if desired. Press in direction of arrows to make edge-finished rectangle. Make 2.

4. Turn under 1/4" twice on one long edge of remaining green 12" x 20" rectangle and press. Stitch close to fold to make hemmed
rectangle. Make 2. Referring to Diagram IV, stitch together center section of pillowcase, 2 purple texture 2 3/4" x 20" strips, and 1each of edge-finished green rectangle and hemmed green rectangle to make pieced pillowcase strip (Diagram V). Make 2.

5. Fold ends of pieced pillowcase strips over onto pillowcase center as shown in Diagram VI, right sides together, overlapping ends with hemmed end on outside (folds should be on center lines of checkerboard pattern). Stitch long sides as shown to complete pillowcase. Turn right side out and press. Make 2.
