Appliquéing the Blocks
Step 1. Note: The cream appliqué background squares are cut oversized to allow for shrinkage during appliqué. Finger-press cream solid 10" square in half lengthwise, crosswise, and diagonally twice; use folds as placement guide. Referring to Diagram I, position template fabrics in alphabetical order, keeping in mind that square will be trimmed to 9 1/2" x 9 1/2" (finished size is 9" square). Using appliqué method of choice (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions), appliqué in place. Note: Nancy used assorted Template B and C fabrics from the same color group per flower and machine buttonhole stitched the appliquéd edges. Do likewise if you wish. Trim to 9 1/2" square to make Appliqué Block. Make 56 total.

Quilt Top Assembly
Step 2. Note:
Refer to Assembly Diagram for following steps.
To make sashing row, sew 8 red print 1 1/2" squares alternating with 7 green print 1 1/2" x 9 1/2" strips. Make 9. To make block row, stitch 8 green 1 1/2" x 9 1/2" strips alternating with 7 blocks. Make 8. Alternating sashing rows with block rows, sew rows together.
Step 3. Stitch light green print 6" x 86" strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Sew remaining light green strips to top and bottom; trim even with sides.

Step 4. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions). On the twin size quilt featured in McCall's Quilting June 2005 Issue, Nancy machine ditch quilted the appliqué, sashing and border. She added a meander on the border.
Step 5. Bind quilt with red print fabric (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions).
