Planning
Yardage requirements for the stripe and plaid fabrics are based on the featured collection. All stripe patches are fussy-cut centered on the wider black stripes. The stripe 4 1/2" x 8 1/2" rectangles are cut on the lengthwise grain. To fussy-cut the plaid 4 1/2" squares, make a template from see-through plastic. Include seam lines so you can center the four-square motif. Place template on fabric, centering where horizontal and vertical wider black lines intersect, mark around edge of template, and cut out.
Gayle backed the lap-size quilt with Minkee Gelato (Mink color), a plush 60"-wide fabric with a hand-dyed look. She used Hobbs Thermore® batting, an ultra-thin non-bearding batting ideal for use with Minkee backings. The resulting quilt is drapable and cozy.
