From McCall's Quilting - October 1996

Stars and Feathers
Designed by Beth Hayes

Miniature quilts can add so much character to a room. They can be easily coordinated with the decor, and be quickly pieced and quilted. This warm-toned design features a variety of plaids in shades of navy, rust, gray, and brown for a masculine look that would instantly add a cozy element to a family room, home office, or even a bathroom decorated in complimentary shades. Plus, Stars and Feathers can be made with some of your scrap fabrics, too.

Planning...
Beth's miniature quilt takes its name from Flying Geese swirling through Sawtooth Stars. Although some of the pieces are very small, this miniature is not difficult to make if accurate 1/4" seams are taken. What we love about miniature quiltmaking is once the piecing is complete, quilting is quickly accomplished.

Get into your fabric stash for snippets of darks and lights to make this mini in no time! To quickly cut the many squares and rectangles, layer several scraps and cut 4 or more together.
