Piecing the Blocks and Strips
NOTE:
To make Flying Geese segments, align a light 1 1/2" square along the left edge of a dark 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangle. Draw a diagonal line on the light square from lower left corner to upper right corner (see Diagram I-A). Sew on drawn line, cut off excess seam allowance, and press out (see Diagrams 1-B and I-C). Repeat steps on right half of rectangle (see Diagrams II-A, II-B, and II-C).

Use the same technique when making star points for Sawtooth Star Blocks, the only variations---reversal of light and dark and cut size of segments on the smaller Sawtooth Stars.

Diagrams 1 and 2

Step 1 ... To make Flying Geese Strips, sew 23 geese from 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" light squares and 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" dark rectangles. Referring to Diagram III, make 2 strips of 7 geese each and 1 strip of 9 geese.

Diagram 3

Step 2 ... Referring to Diagram IV, make 2 large Sawtooth Star blocks. Star point segments are made from 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" dark squares and 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" light rectangles. Sew blocks together to make a rectangle (see Diagram V).
