Step 3 ... Referring to Diagram VI, make 4 small Sawtooth Star blocks. Star point segments are made from 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" dark squares and 1 1/4" x 2" light rectangles. Sew blocks together to make a square (see Diagram VII).

Putting It All Together
Step 4.
Flying Geese Strips, Sawtooth Star Blocks, and mini-check sashing strips are sewn together to make halves. To make first half, sew 2" x 7" mini-check strips to opposite sides of small Star Block square: trim even with top and bottom. Sew 1 1/2" x 10" mini-check strips to opposite sides of small Star Block square; trim even with top and bottom. Sew 1 1/2" x 10" mini-check strip to top side of small Star Block square; trim even with sides (see Diagram VIII). Sew Flying Geese Strip of 7 geese to right side of pieced half (see Diagram IX).

Step 5 ... To make remaining half, sew 1 1/2" x 5" mini-check strip to left side of large Star Block rectangle; trim even with top and bottom. Sew 1 1/2" x 10" mini-check strip to bottom of Star Block rectangle; trim even with sides (see Diagram X). Sew Flying Geese Strip of 9 geese to bottom of large Star Block rectangle. Sew Flying Geese Strip of 7 geese to left of side (see Diagram XI).
