Fabric Requirements ...
Stripe print
... 4 yards*
Contrast prints and stripes ---
12 - 9" x 12" rectangles or 1 yard total
White on white print ... 2 yards
Backing ... 1 1/2 yards
Batting ... 45" x 60"
*Includes 1 1/2 extra yards for template placement. Our fabric had two different stripes with five repeats each (10 stripes total) across the width of the fabric.

Number to Cut...
Stripe print ...
48 diamonds Template A
48 corner triangles Template B
2 strips 4 1/2" x 40" *
2 strips 4 1/2" x 48" *
4 strips 1 1/2" x 48" * for binding

Contrast prints and stripes

*Cut these first. The width of your border will be dictated by the stripe you choose. These measurements worked for the stripe we used.
** Cut four from each different print rectangle.

Quilt Top Assembly
Piecing the Blocks
Step 1 ... Stitch four pairs of A and A1 diamonds together for each block. Add a background piece to create four segments as shown in Piecing Diagram I. Pin seams well to prevent stretching bias edges.
Step 2 ... Add remaining four background pieces as shown in Piecing Diagram II. Press seam allowances in direction of arrows.
Step 3 ... Refering to Piecing Diagram III, add corner triangles.

Putting It All Together
Step 4
... Straighten and square up block edges with a rotary cutter and ruler.
Step 5 ... Referring to Setting Diagram, sew the twelve blocks together carefully matching seam intersections.
Step 6 ... Stitch background border strips to striped border strips. Join to quilt and miter corners (Miter corners).

Binding and Finishing
Step 7
... Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions).
Step 8 ... Quilt in the ditch around the stars, and around the squares and triangles formed from the corner triangles. Quilt along design details of your choice in striped border.
Step 9 ... Bind quilt with stripe fabric, utilizing the design for best effect.
