Bouquets For A Cure

In 1997, McCall's Quilting teamed up with fabric designer Bonnie Benn Stratton's Quilt For A Cure™ program to help raise funds to find a cure for breast cancer. Since then, many advances have been made and breast cancer awareness has been raised to new heights, but a cure has yet to be found. We continue our mission to help with the fight by offering our readers another quilt design using Bonnie's newest Quilt For A Cure™ fabric line, Garden Botanica, manufactured by Hi-Fashion Fabrics, Inc. As always, a percentage of all sales of the fabric, as well as 10 cents for each copy of this issue sold on newsstands, will go directly to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. In addition, proceeds from the raffle of this quilt at the American Quilter's Society Show in Paducah, Kentucky, will also be donated to the foundation.

This year's quilt was designed and pieced by Lynn Dash and machine-quilted by Pat Burnham. We thank them for lovingly donating their time and hope their efforts will in some way put an end to this disease that has stricken so many, including many of our quilting sisters. We hope you, too, will find a way to use this quilt design to benefit such a worthy cause.

Planning, Cutting, and Marking ...
Notice that the center of each block is cut from the same floral bouquet print. This particular fabric includes bouquets with morning glories on the left and bouquets with morning glories on the right. In her quilt, Lynn used 12 bouquets with morning glories on the left and 4 bouquets with morning glories on the right (see side blocks). Be sure to purchase enough fabric to repetitively cut 16 squares. To ensure that you cut identical squares, make a template from clear plastic. (Include seamlines so you can center the motif.) Place template on bouquet with morning glories on left, centering bouquet as desired, and trace guidelines directly on template. Mark around edge of template and cut out. Using guidelines drawn on template, place, mark, and cut 11 more identical squares. Repeat process to cut 4 identical bouquet squares with morning glories on right.
