From McCall's Quilting - June 1997 Issue

Stars For A Cure
Designed by: Bonnie Benn Stratton
Made by: Lynn Dash
Machine Quilted by: Patty Caldwell

Breathtakingly beautiful, this quilt is a wonderful example of a way to participate in Quilt for a Cure™. The fabrics are all from Northcott-Monarch's Plantation collection, designed by Bonnie Benn Stratton. Interestingly, the individual blocks of this quilt are not particularly striking alone --- only when assembled are the Radiant Stars created. A poetic symbol of the Quilt for a Cure™ effort, this quilt should inspire and encourage us, for only together can we hope to make a difference.

Planning, Cutting, and Marking
Bonnie's quilt was sewn from the Plantation fabric group, manufactured by Northcott-Monarch. The focus floral print is the highlight of her design, while her other selections are lovely textured prints. Any large scale floral could be effective. Select colors from the print to create the vibrant bursting stars.

Enjoy timesaving rotary cutting when making this beauty. Careful 1/4" seaming is the key to sewing perfect blocks.

Quilt Top Assembly
Piecing the Blocks

1.) To cut 2 1/8" strips into diamonds, refer to Diagrams I-A, B, and C. Align 45° angle line on plexiglass ruler with long edge of 2 1/8" strip and trim off end of strip. Measuring from the angled edge, cut 2 1/8" segment. Moving along strip, cut remainder of strip into 2 1/8" segments. Each strip yields at least 13 diamonds.
2.)
Referring to Diagram II, sew 4 diamonds to make a large pieced diamond. Make 160.
