Mary Jobe Mason does it again! Known for her puzzle-like designs, Mary created this intriguing bow beauty using pre-assembled segments sewn together with cut squares in diagonal rows. Machine quilting and rich jewel tones add to its allure.

... *5 strips 2 1/2" x WOF (width of fabric)
... 24 squares 3" x 3", cut in half diagonally to make 48 half-square triangles
... 12 squares 5 1/2" x 5 1/2", cut in half twice diagonally to make 48 quarter-square triangles
... 17 squares 9" x 9"
... 38 squares 4 3/4" x 4 3/4"

... *10 strips 1 5/8" x WOF
... 18 squares 5 1/2" x 5 1/2", cut in half twice diagonally to make 72 quarter-square triangles

Quilt Top Assembly
Piecing the Segments

1. Stitch green 1 5/8" x WOF strips and white 2 1/2" x WOF strip together to make strip set. Make 5. Cut into 72 segments 2 5/8" wide (See Diagram I).
2. Referring to Diagram II, add white 3" half-square triangles to short sides of green 5 1/2" quarter-square triangles to make pieced rectangle. Make 24

3. Referring to Diagrams III-A and B, sew 2 white 5 1/2" quarter-square triangles and 2 green 5 1/2" quarter-square triangles together to make pieced square. Make 24.
4. Using strip-set segments, pieced rectangles, and pieced squares, stitch units as shown in Diagrams IV and V. Make 24 of each.

Putting It All Together

Note: Refer to Assembly Diagram for following steps.
5. Sew 20 diagonal rows using pieced units and remaining white, lavender, and green squares. Place 7 1/4" green quarter-square triangles at each end of rows and 3 7/8" half-square triangles on each corner. Sew rows together.

Quilting and Finishing
6. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice. Quilt as desired.
7. Bind quilt with remaining dark green mottle fabric
(see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions).
