Piecing the Blocks
1. Finger-press assorted
print 3 1/2" square in half crosswise and lengthwise to make placement
lines. Referring to Diagram I, position Template A fabric on 3 1/2"
square. Using appliqué method of choice (see Basic
Quiltmaking Instructions), appliqué in place. Make 275 total.
2. Referring to Diagram II, arrange and sew 3 rows using appliquéd
squares and ivory solid 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" rectangle (see Planning,
Cutting, and Marking for hints on writing on fabric). Sew rows together
to make Heart Patchwork Block. Make 24 total. Note: The remaining
appliquéd 3 1/2" squares will be used in the sashing construction.

3. Arrange and sew 3 rows
using assorted print 3 1/2" squares as shown in Diagram III-A. Sew
rows together to make pieced square. Make 34 total. Sew 3 assorted print
3 1/2" squares together to make pieced rectangle (see Diagram III-B).
Make 2 total. Set aside to be used in side borders.
