Don't you just hate to see your sumptuous batik scraps waiting for a home? Well, here's the "purrfect" way to use them up and please a cat lover as well.

Planning, Cutting, and Marking
Use two different batiks for each cat—one for the head and tail, the other for the body. Have fun stitching your colorful felines. Feel free to add faces to your cats, if you wish.

Fabric Requirements
Assorted batiks (blocks, pieced border) ... 4-6 yds. total
Light blue mottle (back-ground, inner border) ... 2 5/8 yds.
Teal batik (border corner squares, binding) ... 1 yd.

Backing (piece lengthwise) ... 43/4 yds.
Batting ... Double size

Cutting Instructions
Assorted batiks

- for cat heads/tails cut 18 matching sets of:
... 1 square 1 7/8" x 1 7/8", cut in half diagonally to make 2 half-square triangles
... 1 rectangle 3 1/2" x 4 1/2"
... 1 strip 1 1/2" x 4 1/2"
... 1 strip 1 1/2" x 8 1/2"
- for cat bodies cut 18 matching sets of:
... 1 rectangle 4 1/2" x 5 1/2"
... 1 rectangle 4 1/2" x 7 1/2"
- for alternate blocks/border cut a total of:

... 136 rectangles 2 1/2" x 3"
... 86 rectangles 3 1/2" x 5 1/2"
Light blue mottle

*4 strips 2" x 66", pieced from 8 width of
fabric (WOF) strips
... 18 squares 1 7/8" x 1 7/8", cut in half diagonally to make 36 half-square triangles

*Cut first.

Piecing the Blocks
Step 1.
Referring to Diagram I-A, sew assorted batik 1 7/8" half-square triangle to light blue mottle 1 7/8" half-square triangle to make pieced square. Make 18 sets of 2 matching. Sew matching pieced squares to ends of light blue mottle 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangle as shown in Diagram I-B. Stitch pieced rectangle to matching batik 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangle (see Diagram I-C) to complete head. Make 18 total.
