Piecing the Blocks
Step 1. Make pieced rectangle as shown in Diagram I-A. On wrong side of black 2 3/4" square, draw diagonal line with marking tool of your choice. Referring to Diagram I-B, place square on corner of beige 5" x 7 3/8" rectangle, right sides together, aligning raw edges. Sew on drawn line; trim away and discard excess fabric. Press open to make pieced rectangle. Stitch pieced rectangles and black 4 1/2" x 5" rectangle together to make sewing machine center (see Diagram I-C). Set aside.
