Yo-Yo Nines
Designed by Kathy L. Reinhard

When you feel like your life is spinning out of control, it's time to make yo-yos! No, not the kind you played with as kids. These yo-yos are made with circles of fabric from Classic Cottons that are gathered to look like the familiar childhood toy. And like the toy, their small size makes them the perfect take-along project—you can revel in the relaxation that stitching offers wherever you go! In no time at all you’ll find you have enough to complete the basket and nine-patch blocks for this unique wall hanging.

Planning, Cutting, and Marking
If you have always wanted to make a yo-yo quilt, here is a chance to combine basic patchwork and yo-yos. The quilt is made first, complete with binding and quilting, then the yo-yo baskets and nine-patch arrangements are added on top, following the grid of the quilting. It’s a perfect combination!

We have given you separate yardages for the actual quilt and yo-yos. Some of the same quilt fabrics were used for the yo-yos to tie the color scheme together. Some yo-yo fabric shades were used more than others. Purchase more of your favorites and less of the other shades. The yo-yo basket shapes were shaded from light to dark across the baskets. When the yo-yo squares were made for the nine-patch design (Diagram VI-A), each square was planned. Do likewise if you wish.
