Step 2. Referring to Planning and Diagram II, sew 4 (1 of each color) Template A fabrics together, starting and stopping at match points, and backtack to secure. Set in white solid 2 1/2" square, 4 1/8" quarter-square triangles, and 2 7/8" half-square triangles, to make pieced triangle. Make 48.

Step 3. Sew pieced triangles to sides of pieced square (Diagram III) to make Diamond Square Block. Make 12.

Quilt Top Assembly
Note: Refer to Assembly Diagram for following steps.
Step 4. Sew 4 rows of 3 blocks each. Sew rows together. Stitch yellow mottle 2" x 60" strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Sew remaining yellow strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides.
Step 5. Stitch blue mottle 1 1/2" x 62" strips to sides; trim even. Sew remaining blue mottle strips to top/bottom; trim even. Stitch large floral 6 1/2" x 64" strips to sides; trim even. Sew remaining large floral strips to top/bottom; trim even.

Quilting and Finishing
Step 6. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions). Phyllis machine quilted curved outlines of each block piece. She added an 8-petal motif on the center square of each block with a portion of the motif on the half-square floral triangles. A smaller motif fills the white half-square triangles and the white square intersection of the blocks. A continuous leaf design meanders on the yellow border and outer floral border.
Step 7. Bind quilt with small floral print fabric (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions).
