Planning, Cutting, and Marking
This striking wall hanging is a great project for practicing the appliqué method of your choice. When placing appliqué pieces, keep in mind that background squares will be trimmed to 24 1/2" x 24 1/2". Kathie machine appliquéd using color-coordinated buttonhole stitch.

Fabric Requirements
Tan-on-tan print (background, border) ... 3 yds.
Red texture (flowers, nine-patches, border) ... 1 3/4 yds.
Green texture (leaves, flowers, nine-patches) ... 2 3/4 yds.
Red small print (flowers, binding) ... 1 yd.

Backing ... 3 7/8 yds.
Batting ... Twin size

Appliquéing the Blocks
Step 1. Note:
The tan background squares are cut oversized to allow for shrinkage during appliqué. Finger-press tan-on-tan print 26" square in half on both length and width, and in half diagonally twice; use folds as placement guide. Referring to Diagram I, position template fabrics in alphabetical order, keeping in mind that square will be trimmed to 24 1/2" x 24 1/2" (finished size is 24" square). Using appliqué method of choice (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions), appliqué in place. Trim to 24 1/2" square. Make 4.
