Step 2. On wrong side of assorted beige print 3 7/8" square, draw diagonal line with marking tool of your choice. Place beige print square on assorted red print 3 7/8" square, right sides together (see Diagram II). Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line; cut apart on marked line. Press open to make pieced squares. Make 28 sets of 4 matching pieced squares. Repeat using assorted beige and assorted blue print squares; make 28 sets of 4 matching pieced squares.

Step 3. Referring to Diagram III, stitch 3 rows using matching red pieced squares, pieced rectangles, and 6 1/2" square. Hint: Be sure all geese are arranged in direction shown. Sew rows together to complete Fox and Goose Block. Make 28 total. In same manner, make 28 total blue/beige blocks.

Note: Refer to Assembly Diagram for following steps.
Step 4. Carefully arrange red blocks (rotate
180°—see planning) and blue blocks on flat surface. Sew 8 rows of 7 blocks each. Sew rows together.
Step 5. Stitch red print 2 1/2" x 98" strips to sides: trim even with top and bottom. Sew remaining red print strips to top and bottom; trim even with sides. Stitch blue print 5 1/2" x 102" strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Sew remaining blue print strips to top and bottom; trim even with sides.

Quilting and Finishing
Step 6. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions). Using a red/white/blue variegated thread, Christine machine quilted a meander on the beige background of the blocks. She added a star meander on the 6" squares and on the border.
Step 7. Bind quilt with blue print fabric (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions).
