Hospitality, warmth, and a feeling of home…that's what we like about the South. And that's what you’ll like about this charming quilt, featuring a scrappy assortment of Moda fabrics.

Fabric Requirements
Assorted red prints (pinwheels) 1-1 1/2 yds. total
Tan texture (background) 4 1/2 yds.
12 assorted dark/medium prints (blocks) 3/8 yd. each
Brown/cream stripe (inner border) 5/8 yd.
Green/red large floral (outer border) 2 1/2 yds.
Red/gold print (binding) 7/8 yd.
Backing (piece lengthwise) 5 3/4 yds.
Batting Queen size

Cutting Instructions
Assorted red prints—cut a total of:
... 128 squares 2 3/4" x 2 3/4"
Tan texture
... *24 strips 2" x width of fabric (WOF)
... *14 strips 3 1/2" x 12 1/2"
... 128 rectangles 2 3/4" x 3 1/2"
... 128 strips 1 1/4" x 3 1/2"
... 96 squares 3 7/8" x 3 7/8"
12 assorted dark/medium prints—cut from each:
... *2 strips 2" x WOF
... 8 squares 3 7/8" x 3 7/8"
Brown/cream stripe
... 2 strips 2" x 82", pieced from 5 WOF strips
... 2 strips 2" x 68", pieced from 4 WOF strips
Green/red large floral
... 4 strips 6" x 86", cut on lengthwise grain
*Cut first.

Piecing the Blocks
1.
Draw diagonal line on wrong side of red 2 3/4" square with marking tool of your choice. Referring to Diagram I-A, place red square on tan 2 3/4" x 3 1/2" rectangle, right sides together, aligning raw edges. Stitch on drawn line; trim away and discard excess fabric. Press open. Sew tan strip to side to make pieced square (Diagram I-B). Make 128 total (set 32 aside for pieced border).
2. On wrong side of tan 3 7/8" square, draw diagonal line. Referring to Diagram II, place tan square on assorted print 3 7/8" square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line; cut apart on marked line. Press open to make pieced squares. Make 12 sets of 16 matching.

3. Referring to Diagram III-A, make 2 strip sets for each of 12 prints. Press in direction of arrow. Cut 24 segments 2" wide from each print. Stitch matching segments into pieced square (Diagram III-B). Make 12 sets of 12 matching.

4. Referring to Diagram IV, make Jacob's Ladder Variation Block. Make 12 sets of 4 matching.

Quilt Top Assembly
Note: Refer to Assembly Diagram for following steps.
5. Sew 8 rows of 6 blocks each. Sew rows together.
6. To make side pieced border, sew 8 pieced squares (from Step 1) together with 4 tan 3 1/2" x 1 1/2" strips, carefully watching placement and orientation. Make 2. Sew pieced strips to sides of quilt center. To make top/bottom pieced border, stitch 8 pieced squares together with 3 tan strips. Make 2. Stitch to top/bottom.
7. Sew brown/cream stripe 82"strips to sides; trim even with top/bottom. Sew remaining brown strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides. Stitch floral strips to sides; trim even. Stitch remaining floral strips to top/bottom; trim even.

Quilting and Finishing
8. Layer, baste, and quilt. Lisa's quilt was machine quilted in a looping meander. Bind with red/gold print (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions).
