Planning, Cutting and Marking
You'll enjoy sewing with these beautiful Jo's Flannels from Andover. There are two repeats of the brown floral border stripe, each printed along the selvedge, with a large overall floral design in between. We've written the cutting instructions for this specific fabric. The sashing strips, border corners and binding take advantage of the large brown floral. If you enjoy pieced backs, you can incorporate the leftover floral fabric there as well. Because flannel can shrink more than regular cotton fabrics, we've allowed a generous amount in our yardage requirements, should you choose to prewash.

Cutting Instructions
Assorted light to medium prints
Cut 15 sets of:
... 4 matching rectangles 2" x 3 1/2"
Assorted dark prints

... 1 square 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"
... 4 squares 2" x 2"
Tan texture
... 6 squares 11" x 11", cut in half twice diagonally to make 24 quarter-square triangles
... 6 squares 5 1/2" x 5 1/2", cut in half diagonally to make 12 half-square triangles
Brown floral stripe
... *2 strips (stripe) 7 3/4" x 47", cut on lengthwise grain
... *2 strips (stripe) 7 3/4" x 39", cut on lengthwise grain
... *2 strips (cut from center) 5" x 47"
... 4 squares (cut from center), 7 3/4" x 7 3/4"
*See Planning and cut stripe first.

Piecing the Blocks
1. Referring to Diagram I, sew matching assorted light to medium 2" x 3 1/2" rectangles to sides of assorted dark 3 1/2" square. Stitch assorted dark matching 2" squares to ends of matching light to medium 2" x 3 1/2" rectangles and stitch to top and bottom to make Unequal Nine-patch Block. Make 15 total.

Quilt Top Assembly
Note: Refer to Assembly Diagram for following steps. The setting triangles on all edges and corners are cut oversized to allow trimming quilt edges even after assembly.
2. Arrange and stitch 3 vertical rows using tan texture 11" quarter-square triangles and Unequal Nine-patch Blocks. Stitch tan texture 5 1/2" half-square triangles to corners. Trim edges even
3. Arrange and stitch together 3 vertical rows and brown floral 5" x 47" strips, taking care to align quilt blocks horizontally. Trim edges even.
4. Measure exact width of quilt center (from raw edge to raw edge). Trim brown floral stripe 7 3/4" x 39" strips to this measurement and sew brown floral 7 3/4" squares to ends. Stitch brown stripe 7 3/4" x 47" strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Sew pieced strips to top/bottom.

Quilting and Finishing
5. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions). Deb machine quilted trailing feathers through the vertical block strips and meander quilted the borders and brown stripes.

6. Bind quilt with fabric cut from the center of the brown floral stripe (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions).
