Piecing the Background and Adding the Appliqué
1. To make the pieced background, sew beige check 9 1/2" x 16" rectangle and tan print 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" rectangle together as shown in Diagram I.

2. Finger-press pieced background in half lengthwise and crosswise; use folds as placement guide. Referring to Assembly Diagram and photo, position Template A-E fabrics, keeping in mind the 1/4" seam allowance. Using appliqué method of choice (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions), appliqué in place. Note: Machine buttonhole stitch was added to appliqué edge. Do likewise if you wish.
Adding the Borders
3. Stitch 1" x 27" red leaf print strips to top and bottom; trim even with sides. Sew remaining red strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom.
4. Sew green floral 3 1/2" x 28" strips to top/bottom; trim even. Stitch remaining green floral strips to sides; trim even.

Quilting and Finishing
5. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions). Pat used Warm & Natural® batting and machine ditch quilted the appliqué and inner border. She added a meander to the background and a flowing leaf design on the outer border.
6. Bind quilt with red leaf print fabric (see Basic Quiltmaking Instructions).
