Planning & Cutting
Ann's block piecing gives you diagonally-set squares without sewing any diagonal rows!
Fabric Requirements
Red texture (blocks) 1 1/4 yds.
Gold large floral (blocks) 1 yd.
Rose texture (strips) 3/4 yd.
Brown print (strips) 2 1/8 yds.
Black/red large floral (border, binding) 2 1/4 yds.
Backing (piece lengthwise) 5 yds.
Batting Twin size
Cutting Instructions
Red texture
... 160 squares 3" x 3", cut in half diagonally to make 320 half-square triangles
Gold large floral
... 80 squares 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"
Rose texture
... 10 strips 1" x 72", pieced from 20 width of fabric (WOF) strips
Brown print
... 6 strips 4 1/2" x 72", cut on lengthwise grain
Black/red large floral
... 4 strips 6 1/2" x 72", cut on lengthwise grain
Quilt Assembly
Step 1. Make 80 Square in a Square Blocks (Diagram I).

Step 2. Referring to Assembly Diagram, sew 16 blocks together end to end to make block strip. Make 5. Sew rose and brown strips together with block strips. Trim even.
Step 3. Sew black/red strips to sides; trim even with top and bottom. Stitch remaining strips to top/bottom; trim even with sides.

Step 4. Layer, baste, and quilt. Ann machine quilted in the ditch around the block patches and the quilt center, and along the rose strips. The brown strips are filled with 3 curving lines, and the border features a meandering floral design. Bind with black/red fabric.
