CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS
Red solid
... 72 squares 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"
... 288 squares 2 3/8" x 2 3/8", cut in half diagonally
to make 576 half-square triangles
... 288 squares 2" x 2"
White solid
... 72 squares 4 1/4" x 4 1/4", cut in half twice diagonally
to make 288 quarter-square triangles
... 288 squares 2" x 2"
... 72 squares 6 1/2" x 6 1/2"

PIECING THE BLOCKS
1. Referring to
Diagram I, stitch red 2 3/8" half-square triangle to sides
of white 4 1/4" quarter-square triangle to make pieced rectangle.
Make 288. Using 4 pieced rectangles, 4 white 2" squares, and 1
red 3 1/2" square, make Sawtooth Block (see Diagram II).
Make 72.
2. Draw diagonal line on wrong
side of red 2" square with marking tool of your choice. Referring
to Diagram III, place red square on white 6 1/2" square,
right sides together, aligning raw edges. Stitch on drawn line; trim
away and discard excess fabric. Press open to make Snowball Block. Make
72.

QUILT TOP ASSEMBLY
3. Referring to Assembly Diagram, stitch
12 rows, alternating Sawtooth and Snowball Blocks. Sew rows together,
alternating Sawtooth and Snowball Blocks.
