Trailing lines of traditional fan appliqués suggest the meanderings of a snail, and make this easy scrap quilt something special. It contains fabrics from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Just think of all the bits and pieces you can use up from your stash when you make this pretty quilt!

Planning a Reproduction
Any color goes for these snails—714 different prints if you have them! We suggest appliquéing the pieced quarter circle onto a foundation square to avoid curved piecing.
Cutting Instructions
Assorted prints—cut a total of: ... 714 Template A
Cream solid ... 238 squares 5" x 5"
Piecing the Block
Step 1. Align match points and stitch 3 assorted print Template A fabrics together (see Diagram I). Align raw edges and appliqué pieced unit onto cream solid 5" square to complete Snail's Trail Block. Trim and discard excess cream solid fabric from behind pieced unit. Make 238 total.
