APPLIQUÉING THE BLOCK
1. Finger press
blue print 8 1/2" square in half diagonally in both directions;
use folds as placement guide. Referring to Diagram I, position white
solid Template A fabric in center. Using appliqué method of
choice (see Quiltmaking
Fundamentals), appliqué in place to complete Kitty Block.
Make 15. Repeat using pink print 8 1/2" square and white Template
AR fabric; make 8.

2. Using black perle cotton, embroider
nose using satin stitch (see Diagram II). Work stem stitch (see Diagram
III) for ears, eyes, mouth, body lines, and background line.

QUILT TOP ASSEMBLY
Note: Refer to Assembly Diagram for following steps. Setting triangles
are cut oversized to allow trimming quilt edges even after assembly.
3. Sew diagonal rows using blocks and pink print 14" quarter-square
triangles. Sew rows together. Stitch pink print 7" half-square
triangles to corners. Trim edges even.
4. Stitch blue print 4 1/2" x 60" strips to long
sides; trim even with short sides. Sew remaining blue print strips
to short sides; trim even with long sides. Stitch pink print 4 1/2"
x 68" strips to long sides; trim even with short sides. Sew remaining
pink print strips to long sides; trim even with short sides.

QUILTING AND FINISHING
5. Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice
(see Quiltmaking
Fundamentals). The maker outline quilted the kitties and 3/4"
from the edge of the blocks. There is a star quilted in each pink
setting triangle. The borders feature a pumpkin seed and diamond design.
6. Bind quilt with blue print fabric (see Quiltmaking
Fundamentals).
