Fusible
Machine Appliqué
| Fast,
fusible machine appliqué method as shared with us by well-known
quilting teacher and author Eleanor Burns. |
| Step 1.
When working with a large pattern, take pattern to copy machine
and photocopy pages, taping together as needed to make complete
placement guides. If block design is symmetrical, make 2 copies.
Hold 1 up to window and trace design onto back side; tape 2 copies
together. To avoid photocopying, transfer pattern by hand onto large
piece of tracing (or any see-thru) paper. |
 |
| Step 2.
Trace templates from placement guide, using fine line permanent
pen, onto smooth side of fusible interfacing (rough side is the
fusible side), leaving 1/2" between pieces. Hint: As you trace,
group together templates to be cut from same fabric. Cut interfacing
sections of pattern pieces apart. Place sections of interfacing
pattern on corresponding fabric with fusible side against the right
side of the fabric. The smooth side (with traced pattern) of interfacing
is on top. Pin in center of each pattern piece. Do not press with
iron. |
 |
| Step 3.
Using an open toe sewing machine foot, and a short stitch length,
sew on interfacing drawn lines. |
 |
| Step 4.
Trim each piece to scant 1/4" beyond sewn line. Trim corners
and clip points. |
