Forever Green

This table ensemble is so quick to make, a perfect gift for that hostess on your holiday list. A fresh take on color gives these fabrics from RJR's For the Holidays collection a contemporary feel.

Tan/gold print (napkins, place mat piecing) 2 1/2 yds.
Green/gold print (trees on ties, place mat piecing) 1/2 yd.
Grey texture (tree trunks) 12" x 14" piece
Black/green print (ties, place mat piecing) 3/4 yd.
Green/black print (place mat piecing) 1/2 yd.
Cream/gold snowflake print (place mat piecing) 3/4 yd.
Olive/black swirl print (place mat sashing, binding) 1 1/8 yds.

NAPKINS
1. Layer two 16 1/2" squares right sides together, aligning raw edges. Using 1/4" seam allowance, stitch around all sides, leaving 4" opening for turning. Trim corners; turn and press. Hand stitch opening closed. Top stitch 1/4" from all sides. Make 4.

Napkin Tie  NAPKIN TIES
2. Layer 2 Template B fabrics right sides together. Stitch around sides, leaving 3/4" opening at center of bottom for turning and inserting trunk (Diagram I). Trim corners, turn, and press. Make 4.
3. To make tree trunk, layer 2 greyrectangles right sides together (Diagram II). Stitch around 3 sides, leaving a 1 1/4" end open for turning. Trim corners, turn, and press. Insert in opening in tree bottom (Diagram III). Hand stitch closed. Make 4.

4. Fold black/green strip in half lengthwise, right sides together. Stitch 1/4" seam along long side. Trim seam to 1/8", turn tube, and press. Hint: To turn tube, pin small safety pin to one layer of fabric at opening edge, insert in tube, and work pin through to opposite end. Tie knot in each end. Make 4. Tack tree to center of each tie.
