Step 6. Pieced Square Sub Unit
Draw a diagonal line on wrong side of Piece 3C 3 1/4" x 3 1/4"
gold squares. Layer Piece 3C square and Piece 1C 3 1/4" x 3 1/4"
cream square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" offset from each side
of the drawn line (Diagram VI-A). Cut sewn squares diagonally using
unsewn corners as guide (Diagram VI-B). Yield 2 sets of triangles. Cut
each triangle set on previously drawn line (Diagram VI-C). Press seams
toward gold triangles. Yield 4 sets of quarter-square triangles. Using
Diagram VI-D as a guide, place triangle sets so that there are alternating
gold and cream trianlges. Sew together to form pieced-square. Make 4
total.
