Old Maid's Puzzle

Cutting Instructions
Cream background
4 Template A
14 squares 2 1/8" x 2 1/8"
4 rectangles 1 3/4" x 2 1/2"
Pink print
4 Template B

Green solid
2 strips 1 1/4" x 3 1/2"
1 strip 1 1/4" x 7 1/4"
14 squares 2 1/8" x 2 1/8"
Medium blue print
2 squares 5 5/8" x 5 5/8", cut in half diagonally to make 4 half-square triangles

Assembly Instructions
Step 1. Referring to Diagram I, stitch cream background Template A and pink print Template B fabrics together. Make 4 large pieced squares.
Step 2. Sew large pieced squares to sides of green solid 1 1/4" x 3 1/2" strip (see Diagram II); make 2. Stitch large pieced square units to sides of green solid 1 1/4" x 7 1/4" strip. Sew medium blue print 5 5/8" half-square triangles to sides. Make 1 center unit.

Step 3. On wrong side of cream background 2 1/8" square, draw diagonal line with marking tool of your choice. Referring to Diagram III, place cream square on green solid 2 1/8" square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line; cut apart on marked line. Press open to make small pieced squares. Make 28 small pieced squares.

Step 4. Referring to Diagram IV, sew together small pieced squares and cream background 1 3/4" x 2 1/2" rectangles as shown. Stitch to sides, top, and bottom of center unit to complete Old Maid's Puzzle Block.
