Cutting Instructions:
Yellow
... one 1 9/16" x 12" strip

White
... eight 2 3/8" squares cut once diagonally to form half-square triangles
... two 3 7/8" squares (see Diagram III)

Purple print
... one 1 9/16" x 12" strip
... two 3 7/8" squares (see Diagram III)
... one 3 1/2" square

Step 1. Referring to Diagram I, sew purple print and yellow 1 9/16" x 12" strips together. Make 1. Press in direction of arrow. Cut into 8 segments 1 9/16" wide. Stitch segments into pieced square. Make 4. Stitch white 2 3/8" half-square triangles to sides of small purple print/yellow pieced square (see Diagram II). Make 4.

Step 2. On wrong side of white 3 7/8" square, draw diagonal line with marking tool of your choice. Referring to Diagram III, place white square on purple print 3 7/8"square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line; cut apart on marked line. Press open to make pieced squares. Make 4.

Step 3. To make Butterfly Block, stitch 8 pieced squares and 1 purple print 3 1/2" square into 3 rows. Sew rows together. (Diagram IV)
